CS Ruku unveils plan to pilot digital platform for monitoring public servants by October

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has announced that the government will roll out a new digital platform to track the activities of public servants before the end of the year.

Speaking during an interview on KTN on Monday evening, Ruku revealed that the system, currently under development, will undergo testing in October to confirm whether it meets the required standards.

“We have a team working on developing a digital application, and we want to test it by the end of October to see whether it meets the needs,” Ruku said.

He explained that the platform will track attendance, absenteeism, meetings, sick leave, and annual leave across ministries, state departments, and agencies.

“As a government, we still do not have a platform that shows the exact number of employees in agencies, ministries, and state departments who are on leave at any given time,” he noted.

Tackling graft and ghost workers

The CS said the platform is also designed to curb graft and address the problem of ghost workers within the public sector.

“If you are not accountable for what you do on a day-to-day basis, this platform will catch up with you before the end of this year. We have to be accountable to the people of Kenya,” Ruku warned.

He added that once testing is complete, the Ministry will forward the proposal to the Cabinet for discussion and approval.

Push for accountability

Ruku also underscored the importance of punctuality and efficiency among public servants, insisting that Kenyans must be assured of timely service delivery.

“We have to push the public servants to be at their work stations at the right time. The people of Kenya must see that those who are in charge are pushing the people who are supposed to work in the right direction,” he said.

The CS pledged to continue pushing for accountability across ministries, parastatals, and commissions.
