DAP-K parliamentary candidate Seth Panyako was arrested early Thursday at Malava Police Station hours after surviving a violent overnight attack.
According to reports, unknown assailants targeted Panyako, torching his vehicles and injuring several of his campaign agents in what the party described as a coordinated effort to intimidate him and disrupt the by-election process.
“Our candidate, Seth Panyako, has been arrested despite being the victim of an overnight attack by goons under police supervision,” DAP-K stated. “This is an attempt to intimidate him and undermine democratic processes. We will not allow it.”
The attack has raised serious concerns among residents and election observers, who warn that such incidents could escalate tensions and compromise voter confidence in the Malava constituency.
While at the police station, Panyako reportedly attempted to report the attack and destruction of property. The party is calling for immediate intervention from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and law enforcement agencies to guarantee the safety of candidates and their supporters.
Political analysts note that Malava, a key constituency in the ongoing by-elections, has witnessed rising political tensions in recent days. Ensuring secure and peaceful voting has become a critical concern for both local authorities and the electorate.
DAP-K has urged the government to investigate the attack and hold perpetrators accountable, stressing that political violence has no place in Kenya’s democratic processes. The party reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Panyako can continue his campaign and exercise his democratic rights.
The by-election in Malava continues under heightened security, with IEBC and police authorities on alert to prevent further disruptions.
