Teresia Wambui Kihagi, a 39-year-old daycare operator in Wangige Market, has been arraigned on 36 counts of child pornography, indecent acts with minors, and child abuse.
The accused, who runs a daycare center for children aged two to four, appeared before Kikuyu Law Courts on Thursday.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Kihagi is alleged to have used young children to produce pornographic content.
The explicit images and videos were discovered by chance when Kihagi misplaced her phone. The person who found the phone accessed it and reported the content to the authorities.
During the court hearing, the prosecution opposed Kihagi’s release on bail, citing concerns about her safety, potential witness interference, and the risk of her absconding court.
The ODPP also rejected Kihagi’s request to be provided with the pornographic materials for her defense, arguing that doing so would amount to further distribution of child pornography.
The case has been adjourned to November 7, 2024, when the court will deliver a ruling on bail or bond terms.
