Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected fraudster accused of swindling a Kenyan woman out of Ksh130,000 while posing as the personal assistant to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
The elaborate scam reportedly began in February 2024, when a Kenyan woman working in Lebanon contacted the suspect through his TikTok account, seeking a government job upon her return home.
Police say the fraudster introduced himself as a close associate of top government officials and even produced a forged Public Service Commission document to back his claims. He then demanded multiple “facilitation fees,” which the woman sent via Western Union, totaling Ksh130,000.
When the promised job never materialized, the victim reached out to the DCI, who launched a manhunt and arrested the suspect on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The man is now in police custody, awaiting charges.
This arrest comes just weeks after DCI nabbed two suspects in Eldoret accused of conning more than 100 young people through a fake recruitment agency. The victims, who each lost Ksh2,400 in registration fees, flocked to Eldoret Central Police Station demanding refunds after the arrests.
Authorities are now warning Kenyans to remain vigilant against job scams that prey on desperate job seekers both locally and abroad.
