DCI rules out foul play in Cyrus Jirongo’s death

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has ruled out foul play in the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, confirming he died in a road accident along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 5, the DCI said investigations established that Jirongo died on the night of December 13, 2025, following a high-impact collision at Karai area.

The probe followed public speculation and concerns raised by the family, prompting a multi-agency investigation involving homicide detectives and forensic experts.

Detectives processed the scene, secured exhibits, reviewed CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station, analysed bus manifests, amateur videos and forensic evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses, including family members, bus crew, passengers and other key individuals.

The DCI said evidence gathered points to a traffic accident, with no indication of criminal involvement, adding that the investigation file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further direction.
