DCP Party Launch Delayed Until End of June Amid Venue Dispute

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has rescheduled its official launch to later this month due to venue complications. Initially set for June 3 at Kasarani Stadium, the event faced cancellation when Sports Kenya revoked the booking, citing preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025.

DCP officials had secured Kasarani Stadium, completed all payments, and confirmed the booking. However, Sports Kenya abruptly withdrew the agreement, prompting Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala to allege political interference. Malala reassured supporters, stating, “They may deny us a venue, but they cannot silence our movement. We will forge ahead.” Without delay, party leaders started searching for a new venue and promised an updated announcement soon.

Despite the setback, party leaders quickly convened for their first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 3. There, they strategized on party structures and approved the formation of an aspirants’ forum, aimed at uniting potential candidates for the 2027 elections. Moving forward, every county will establish its own forum, culminating in a nationwide membership drive. Moreover, officials ruled against unauthorized party office openings, ensuring that all structures align with the party’s official directives.

Nonetheless, DCP leaders remain determined and energized. They expect to attract over 50,000 attendees, including members, media, and distinguished guests, once they finalize a new venue. With momentum building, the party continues to push forward, promising a grand launch that will mark the beginning of a new political chapter in Kenya.
