Detectives have rescued two women who were abducted in Nyeri and later found locked inside a rental apartment in Thika.
The two prime suspects behind the abduction were arrested on Tuesday evening by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Thika West. Police say the suspects are linked to a wider kidnapping network.
The rescue followed a tip-off from residents in the Muguga area, who reported suspicious activity after noticing two distressed women locked inside the house. Detectives stormed the building and found the victims crying, visibly shaken, and showing signs of physical abuse.
“Acting promptly, detectives stormed the house and found the two victims in a traumatized condition, wailing, and tending to evidence of physical abuse. Their mobile phones had been snatched away by the suspects to cut them off from the rest of the world,” a police report read.
During the operation, officers recovered seven mobile phones, five SIM cards, three SIM plates, and a vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction. Inside the car, police also found four kitchen knives, seven matchboxes, and other items suspected to have been intended for future crimes.
Preliminary investigations show the women were abducted in Nyeri on August 19, 2025, and transported to Thika in the same vehicle later intercepted by the police.
A background check revealed one suspect is on the Nyeri wanted list and has been linked to several robbery and kidnapping cases. Detectives believe the suspects are part of a broader criminal syndicate.
The two remain in custody and are expected to face charges once investigations are completed. Under Kenyan law, unlawful confinement, detention, or abduction carries a prison term ranging from seven years to life imprisonment, depending on the motive and severity of the offence.
