DPP orders police probe into South C building collapse

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has ordered investigations into the collapse of a 16-storey building in South C, Nairobi.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the DPP directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to lead the probe and submit a comprehensive investigation report within seven days.

Ingonga instructed police to record statements from all key individuals, including the developer, contractors, and officials responsible for building approvals, inspections, and enforcement.

The DPP said swift investigations were necessary to uphold the rule of law, public interest, and justice.

The building collapsed at around 5am on Friday, January 2, trapping at least two people. Rescue teams later recovered one body as search efforts continue.

Nairobi County Government confirmed the building had been flagged months earlier over multiple construction violations.
