The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has opened the murder trial of slain Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, outlining an alleged conspiracy driven by betrayal, greed and careful coordination.
Appearing before Lady Justice Diana Kavedza at the Kibera High Court, Senior Assistant DPP Gikui Gichuhi told the court that the MP’s killing was not random but involved five suspects acting in concert.
The prosecution alleged that one of the MP’s bodyguards, entrusted with his security, was lured by financial gain and collaborated with others to facilitate the killing, while hired individuals were allegedly used to execute the plan.
According to the DPP, investigators have assembled testimonial, documentary and forensic evidence linking each accused to specific roles, including coordination, financing, supply of the firearm and execution of the attack.
The prosecution said it would present credible evidence to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt as proceedings continue.
