Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has been elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
The election took place on September 9, 2025, during the IAP’s 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Singapore.
According to a statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Ingonga was “unanimously elected”, a development the office described as a historic milestone for both Kenya and the African continent.
As a Supernumerary Member, Ingonga will provide additional expertise and regional representation on the committee, helping shape prosecutorial standards and practices across jurisdictions.
The appointment comes just two months after Ingonga was named President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) during its 17th Annual Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Speaking after his election, Ingonga expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and underlined the role of prosecutors in delivering justice fairly and firmly.
“I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it,” he said.
“Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness.”
The ODPP noted that Ingonga’s election further reinforces Kenya’s active role in international justice, building on the country’s hosting of the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa in July.
The office added that the new role provides a platform to enhance global cooperation, address emerging challenges, and strengthen prosecutorial standards worldwide
