EACC officers undergo elite anti-corruption training at FBI academy in the United States

Kenya’s anti-graft war has received a boost after 26 officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) began an intensive training programme at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Academy in Quantico, Virginia, USA.

The officers are attending the Advanced Public Corruption Training, a specialised course designed to sharpen their expertise in tackling corruption and economic crimes. The programme covers advanced investigative techniques, anti-corruption strategies, forensic analysis, and international cooperation.

“Twenty-six EACC officers are undertaking the Advanced Public Corruption Training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, USA,” EACC confirmed.

EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud attended the opening of the programme, emphasising the importance of strong regional and global partnerships in combating corruption.

While in the US, Mr Mohamud held high-level talks with FBI leadership on areas of mutual interest, including intelligence sharing and recovery of corruption proceeds. He also met with senior officials at the US Department of Justice to discuss capacity building for cross-border investigations and Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA).

The FBI’s Assistant Director in charge of Training, Matthew Miraglia, joined other senior officials in welcoming the Kenyan delegation.

During his visit, Mr Mohamud also met Kenya’s Ambassador to Washington, DC, David Kerich, where discussions touched on collaborative measures, including tackling the problem of fake academic credentials allegedly issued by US-based institutions.

The training marks a continued deepening of cooperation between the EACC and FBI in fulfilling their shared mandate to combat graft.
