The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has set a strict deadline for all public and state officers to submit their wealth declarations by December 31, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and curb corruption in Kenya.
In a notice issued by EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, officers are required to declare their income, assets, and liabilities, including those of spouses and dependent children under 18. The move follows the Conflict of Interest Bill 2025, which came into effect in August, and aims to regulate conflicts of interest in public service.
Mohamud emphasised that each officer is personally responsible for the accuracy of their submissions. The Commission will scrutinise declarations for completeness, investigate discrepancies, and seek clarifications where necessary. “Public officers must ensure that the information provided is true and comprehensive. Any omission or inconsistency will be questioned,” he said.
The declarations will be securely stored at EACC headquarters for a minimum of five years after an officer leaves public service. Those who fail to comply with the requirements face disciplinary action, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct in public office.
This directive highlights the government’s renewed commitment to accountability, signaling to Kenyans that transparency is no longer optional but a mandatory part of public service. Officers are urged to familiarise themselves with the definition of “material change” in the Act, ensuring all relevant updates are captured in their declarations.
