Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of engaging in survival politics rather than offering clear leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a TV interview on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Gakuya criticized Raila for what he termed as contradictory roles that undermine the Constitution. He argued that Raila cannot participate in government while still claiming to lead the opposition.
“Raila is no longer a national commander. He is simply playing politics for survival,” Gakuya said, adding that Odinga’s influence has dwindled to his traditional support base.
The MP further challenged Raila to choose between government and opposition, saying his dual role in consultations and parliamentary leadership is unconstitutional.
Raila, however, has maintained that ODM’s pact with President William Ruto will hold until 2027, affirming the party will field its own presidential candidate in the next election.
