Energy CS Wandayi vows ODM will Honour Raila Odinga’s legacy by staying in Ruto’s government beyond 2027

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has reaffirmed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will continue working with President William Ruto’s government beyond 2027, saying the late Raila Odinga entrusted them with that responsibility.

Speaking on Friday, October 17, Wandayi said Raila’s decision for ODM to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza administration was final, and the party would remain committed to that course.

“Baba has left us in the government led by President Ruto, and that is where we are going to stay till the end,” Wandayi stated. “We shall walk step by step with President Ruto to the end, now and beyond 2027.”

However, his remarks drew criticism from Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who urged ODM leaders to focus on mourning Raila instead of making political pronouncements.

“It is not proper for some ODM leaders to come to Baba’s funeral crying that Raila left people in government. Let us mourn first, then discuss where he left you,” Amisi said.

This is not the first time Wandayi has made such remarks. In 2024, he expressed similar sentiments in Kericho, saying ODM’s partnership with Ruto was firm and aimed at advancing national unity and progress.

“The country is bigger than individuals or political parties. When President Ruto invited me to join his government, I accepted without hesitation,” Wandayi said then.

He maintained that ODM’s collaboration with Ruto’s administration is rooted in the late Raila’s legacy of inclusivity and dialogue, insisting the partnership will strengthen governance and ensure national stability.

Wandayi’s statement comes as the nation prepares to bid farewell to Raila Odinga, who will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his home in Bondo, Siaya County.
