The family of 23-year-old Seth Nyakio Njeri, the only child of nominated Kirinyaga MCA Lucy Njeri, is demanding justice after her tragic death. The Zetech University graduate’s body was discovered on Monday, October 14, 2024, in a rented apartment in the Biafra estate, Thika.
Seth’s mother, Lucy Njeri, recounted that her daughter had left their home in Kamakis on Saturday, October 12, in high spirits. They remained in contact until Sunday, October 13, but then lost touch as Seth’s messages and phone calls went unanswered.
Worried, the family initiated a search but was unsuccessful until they received a distressing call from a friend informing them of Seth’s death.
“I found my daughter lying peacefully, a good soul; you could even think we were talking to each other because of the bond and the friendship we shared,” the mother stated. “I saw visible injuries on the neck,” she added.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Seth had been strangled. Police suspect that the assailant sexually abused her before committing the heinous act.
Detectives have identified a male friend who was reportedly upset after the two had separated. However, Seth’s parents dismiss the theory that he is the killer, claiming that the friend she was visiting in Thika has information about what might have transpired.
The police have since questioned the female friend Seth had gone to visit as they continue to investigate the case.
Seth’s death adds to the growing list of brutal acts of violence against women in the country, sparking fresh calls for action against gender-based violence.
