Gachagua to Launch Democracy for Citizens Party in June

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will unveil his new political party, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), on June 3, 2025, at Kasarani Indoor Arena, Nairobi. This marks a major political shift as Gachagua prepares for 2027 elections.

Gachagua introduced DCP on May 15, 2025, at its headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi. He stressed the need to listen to ordinary Kenyans. The party embraced the slogan “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans) and chose a logo featuring an ear cupped by fingers, symbolizing attentiveness.

“Kenyans told us they have solutions to their problems. They asked us to form a party to create a government by the people, for the people,” Gachagua said.

The party assigned former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala as interim Deputy Party Leader and David Mingati as Chairperson. Other key figures took major roles. Former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi became National Organizing Secretary, while former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru was named National Women’s Leader. Former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi assumed the role of Deputy Party Chair for Strategy.

Other officials include Hezron Obaga (Secretary General), Hannah Mutua (Treasurer), Andrew Kiplimo Muge (Director of Elections), Maina Kamanda (Chairperson of the Council of Eminent Persons), and Alex Khamasi (National Coordinator – Counties).

Meanwhile, preparations for the grand launch continue. The party secured Kasarani Stadium Gymnasium for the event, expecting 5,000 attendees from different sectors. The Ksh3.7 million venue will host speeches, performances, and interactive sessions to introduce the party’s vision, manifesto, and leadership.

Gachagua’s entry into party politics expands his national influence. DCP presents an alternative for frustrated Kenyans. This launch comes as political alliances shift and leaders reposition ahead of 2027 elections.

However, the party faced challenges early. The Lavington unveiling turned chaotic when unidentified individuals stormed the venue, forcing security intervention. Despite the disruption, Gachagua remains focused on his political ambitions.
