Gachagua warns matatu operators against ferrying goons

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a warning to public service vehicle (PSV) operators, accusing some of facilitating the transport of goons to disrupt his public engagements.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, January 12, Gachagua alleged that individuals linked to President William Ruto’s administration were hiring matatus to ferry groups tasked with sabotaging his rallies and those of his political allies.

The Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) leader claimed that some matatu owners, particularly those operating in Thika, may be unaware their vehicles were allegedly being used for such activities. He cautioned operators against allowing their vehicles to be hired for violent missions, warning that owners should not raise complaints if their vehicles fail to return.

Gachagua’s remarks follow an incident on Sunday in Gatundu, where he claimed goons attempted to disrupt a church service he attended. He alleged that residents intervened and neutralised the group, accusing police of using teargas inside the church.

He praised residents for standing their ground and later urged Kenyans to boycott matatu saccos allegedly linked to the disruptions.
