Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe to Be Arraigned in Court Today

Gatundu South Member of Parliament, Gabriel Kagombe, is set to appear in Machakos Law Courts today, facing serious charges related to the misuse of a firearm and the fatal shooting of a boda boda rider, David Nduati. The prosecution team is pushing for murder charges against the legislator.

Kagombe was arrested on Friday, May 31, at his residence in Kileleshwa Nairobi. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations conducted ballistic investigations, which revealed that the gun responsible for the fatal shot was Kagombe’s official firearm.

Kagombe’s troubles began on May 17 when, along with National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North), and Ngoliba ward MCA Joachim Njama, he accompanied Thika Town Member of Parliament Ms. Alice Ms Ng’ang’a to launch the construction of Kiganjo market in Kamenu Ward. A clash erupted between two camps during the event.

The day before the clash, Kamenu Ward Representative, Peter Mburu, mobilized his supporters and allocated space for market sheds.

A confrontation erupted between Kagombe’s group and the MCA’s team.

Kagombe, according to police reports, removed his gun and fired indiscriminately into the air, tragically killing a 26-year-old boda boda rider named David Nduati.

The dispute arose from conflicting claims about the project’s origin. Ms. Ng’ang’a, with her supporters and a contractor, arrived on May 17th, claiming the project was a national government initiative based on President Ruto’s campaign promise. Mburu and his supporters, however, maintained it was a county government project. Tensions escalated into clashes, with some wielding machetes.

During the chaos, an amateur video captured Mr. Kagombe removing a handgun from his waistline and firing as the crowd scattered, screaming.

The court proceedings will determine whether Kagombe will be detained further for investigations. Kagombe, a first-time legislator elected on a UDA party ticket in the 2022 elections, now faces a critical moment in his political career.

As the court proceedings begin, the eyes of the nation are on Machakos Law Courts, awaiting justice for David Nduati .
