The tournament doubled as the official opening of the new Thigio Primary Stadium, a key sports facility expected to boost grassroots football in Kiambu. The event was graced by Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, who also announced a major boost for local football development.
Through the Department of Sports, Governor Wamatangi unveiled a Ksh2.7 million league sponsorship for the FKF Kiambu Branch, a move aimed at strengthening county leagues, nurturing young talent, and improving sports systems across sub-counties.
FKF Kiambu Branch officials lauded the county’s commitment, noting that the new sponsorship and upgraded facilities will give local teams the support they need to grow competitively.
They congratulated all participating teams and reaffirmed that preparations for the second season of the Governor’s Cup are already underway.
