Government releases Ksh 2.5 billion Inua Jamii funds to support over 1.2 million vulnerable households

The government has disbursed Ksh 2.54 billion under the January 2026 Inua Jamii payment cycle, benefiting more than 1.2 million vulnerable Kenyans enrolled in the national social protection programme.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 6, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said the funds target 1.1 million senior citizens and 63,938 persons living with severe disabilities. Each beneficiary will receive Ksh 2,000 during the current payment cycle.

Disbursement began on Friday, with beneficiaries accessing the funds digitally through the e-Citizen platform by dialing *222#. Recipients can withdraw the money from M-PESA agents or transfer it directly to their M-PESA accounts.

The Inua Jamii programme supports older persons aged 70 years and above, as well as caregivers of persons with severe disabilities. The ministry noted that the latest payment comes at a critical time when drought and rising living costs continue to strain vulnerable households across the country.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining social protection programmes to cushion vulnerable Kenyans and uphold dignity as provided for under the Constitution.
