Government to open nine new Huduma Centres in push to bring public services closer to citizens

The government is set to establish nine new Huduma Centres across the country in a move aimed at bringing essential public services closer to citizens and boosting efficiency in service delivery.

According to the Principal Secretary for Public Service, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, the expansion is part of the government’s commitment to building a citizen-centred and technology-driven public service.

“The Government remains committed to taking services closer to the people. We are rolling out nine new Huduma Centres, in addition to the existing 59, to expand access and strengthen service delivery,” said Dr. Imbunya.

The new facilities, expected to open before the end of the current financial year, will be located in Runyenjes, Kilifi, Malindi, Molo, and Maua, among other towns. Several existing centres have also undergone upgrades to improve customer experience and efficiency.

Dr. Imbunya added that the expansion aligns with the government’s BETA Agenda, which seeks to transform public service through people-centred and technology-enabled solutions.

Huduma Kenya CEO Ben Kai Chilumo revealed that Huduma Centres continue to serve the largest number of in-person government clients, with an average of 60,000 Kenyans served daily.

“Last year alone, Huduma Kenya served over 14.1 million customers. This financial year, we are targeting to serve at least 14 million citizens,” Chilumo noted.

He further urged citizens to collect unclaimed documents including national IDs, birth certificates, and driving licences from their respective Huduma Centres, saying thousands remain uncollected.

Huduma Centres remain one of the government’s most impactful innovations, simplifying access to key services such as KRA, NSSF, NTSA, and NHIF, while reducing bureaucracy and improving transparency in public service delivery.
