Governor Natembeya accuses government of defying court orders after withdrawal of security following claims of political intimidation

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has accused the national government of defying court orders by refusing to reinstate his security, weeks after his guards were withdrawn.

Speaking in Saboti Constituency, the governor said the move was a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence him because of his outspoken criticism of governance failures. He described the withdrawal of his bodyguards, driver and official vehicle at the end of November as unlawful and politically motivated.

Natembeya said the action would not deter him from speaking out, urging the government to respect constitutional freedoms and the sacrifices made by leaders who fought for Kenya’s independence.

In a previous interview, the governor claimed authorities recalled his security without explanation and attempted to block his travel to public engagements in Malava and other areas.

His remarks come days after unidentified individuals disrupted one of his rallies in Kabuchai Constituency, firing gunshots and damaging vehicles, an incident he said reflects rising political intolerance.
