Governor Natembeya Charged Over Ksh3.2 Million Corruption Allegations

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court charged Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya with corruption-related offences on May 20, 2025. The charges included conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property.

Between January 2023 and April 2025, investigators accused Natembeya of acquiring over Ksh3.2 million through companies linked to him. The county allegedly made payments to Lyma Agro Science Limited, Maira Stores, and Easterly Winds Limited. The prosecution also implicated Emmanuel Wafula Masungo, the county’s Chief Finance Officer, in transactions worth Ksh2.68 million.

Investigators claimed Natembeya received more than Ksh1.1 million from Mercy Chelongat, a company director. They also alleged that he acquired Ksh2.1 million through Masungo. Authorities accused Masungo of misusing public funds via Easterly Winds Limited, where he was the sole signatory.

Natembeya denied the charges before the court. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) urged the court to deny him bail. The case is set to proceed with further hearings. Meanwhile, Natembeya’s lawyers argued that political motives drove the charges.
