In a great step towards transforming Thika into an Industrial Smart City, Governor Wamatangi held a pivotal consultative meeting this morning with a high-level delegation from the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha). The meeting, led by Senior Engineer Ephraim Obuollah, focused on an ambitious plan to upgrade approximately 60 kilometers of roads within Thika. The discussion came as part of an ongoing effort to modernize Thika’s infrastructure and support its growth into a hub of industrial and technological innovation.
The delegation from Kenha shared that a comprehensive feasibility study, along with an environmental and social impact report, has already been completed. These documents will ensure that the projects meet both environmental standards and community needs. The next steps involve finalizing road designs, followed by a series of public consultations to gather community input before construction begins.
Among the key projects discussed were the dualing of several major roads, including:
- Heile Selassie-Upper Highway
- Upper Road Roundabout to General Kago Road
- Magoko-Kenyatta Avenue Road
- Kenyatta Highway from East Africa Paper Mills to Zero Gravity Distilleries, extending to the A3 Road
- A2/A3 Junction to Kilimambogo
Additionally, significant upgrades are planned for:
- Magoko/Upper Road Junction to Thika Bypass Road
- Slip roads at Castle Breweries
- The section of highway from Thika to Kenol Town, which will receive an additional lane in both directions
- Blue Post-Gatanga Road
- The Garissa Road-Thika Bypass intersection near BAT Thika
- The highway section near Thika Sports Club
- The Delmonte junction
Governor Wamatangi also advocated for further road enhancements, urging Kenha to include upgrades along the Kilimambogo, Witeithie, Juja Farm route, and the Gatuanyaga-Juja Road circuit. These additions are expected to complement the ongoing improvements and support the broader vision for Thika’s development.
