Gov’t showcases women’s role in driving agriculture and enterprise growth in Laikipia

The government has hailed women as key drivers of grassroots change, citing their dual role as family caregivers and leaders in agriculture and rural enterprise.

In Laikipia County, thousands of women farmers and women-led businesses are reaping the benefits of subsidised fertiliser, certified seeds, and newly constructed fresh produce markets in towns including Nanyuki, Nyahururu, Ilpolei, Wiyumiririe, Kibaba, Posta, Kalali and Sipili.

The government says these interventions, alongside enhanced rural security, have boosted productivity and enterprise growth.

Laikipia has also recorded progress in social services, with 242,000 residents already enrolled in the Universal Health Insurance Scheme. At the same time, the ongoing last-mile electricity programme will connect 4,000 more households and business premises at a cost of Ksh720 million.

During a meeting with 1,500 grassroots women opinion leaders, the government urged them to guide the youth, uphold positive values, and continue praying for the nation’s peace and stability.

Officials noted that empowering women at the community level is central to expanding the economy and creating opportunities for future generations.
