Grade 9 students in Lari Sub-County, Kiambu County, have received new lockers and chairs from Member of Parliament Joseph Mburu Kahangara to support learning in Term One of 2025.
This initiative, funded by the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), aims to ease the financial burden on parents and enhance education in the region.
The distributed furniture has saved parents Sh4,500 per student, the estimated cost of purchasing lockers. MP Mburu officially launched the distribution on Monday, January 6, 2025, during the Lari Feeding Programme and the commissioning of Grade 9 smart lockers at Kimende Primary School grounds. He confirmed that all junior secondary schools in Lari will receive the lockers by Friday, January 10, 2025.
“Today, I flagged off smart lockers for over 60 public primary schools in Lari Constituency at Kimende Primary School. This fulfills my promise that no Grade 9 parent should purchase a locker for their child,” Mburu stated.
Highlighting the importance of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Mburu emphasized that it equips learners with essential real-life skills for the future job market. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting this educational vision in Lari.
Additionally, the newly launched Lari Feeding Programme will provide tea at 10 a.m. and a nutritious lunch to all students in secondary day schools. Parents will contribute Sh2,000 per term to sustain the program. Mburu also announced plans to expand the feeding program to all primary schools under the ‘Tap to Eat’ initiative.
This development aligns with the Ministry of Education’s efforts to ensure schools adhere to the academic calendar. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, in a statement on Saturday, January 4, confirmed that Term One of 2025 will run for 13 weeks, including a five-day midterm break. Ministry officials will oversee compliance through Regional and County Directors of Education.
