Guinness World Records has officially recognised Truphena Muthoni’s 48-hour tree-hugging world record, marking a milestone in her environmental activism. The announcement came on December 12, 2025, shortly after Muthoni completed her second attempt to break her own record with a 72-hour tree-hugging marathon.
The international organisation emailed Muthoni to confirm her 48-hour achievement and provide guidance on obtaining certificates, merchandise, and official recognition. Guinness World Records also requested that she submit verified evidence to validate her recent 72-hour attempt.
Muthoni, who completed her first 48-hour record from January 31 to February 2, 2025, in Nairobi’s Michuki Park, spent over five months preparing. Her regimen included 42 km walks and 12-hour tree-hugging simulations, allowing her to surpass the previous record by nearly 24 hours.
The young environmentalist has drawn widespread attention across Kenya for her resilience, commitment to green activism, and advocacy for mental and emotional wellbeing. Many have likened her to Wangari Maathai, citing her dedication to environmental conservation and public engagement.
Muthoni’s latest attempt, held at the Nyeri Governor’s office on December 11, 2025, has sparked nationwide support, with Kenyans encouraging her to submit the required evidence for official recognition of the 72-hour record.
