The High Court has extended orders stopping the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) from arresting or charging Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi over graft allegations.
The decision shields the county boss until October 8, 2025, when judges will make a final ruling on whether to lift or uphold the suspension. The court directed Governor Wamatangi to file his submissions within seven days.
On July 24, Justice Chacha Mwita had initially barred the two agencies from acting against Wamatangi, citing the need to allow the petition to be determined fairly.
The case stems from an April 15 raid on the governor’s home and offices, during which nine senior Kiambu County officials were also apprehended. They were accused of embezzlement of public funds and conflict of interest. The officials, however, dismissed the claims as politically motivated.
Governor Wamatangi has equally termed the raid and graft accusations as political intimidation meant to undermine his leadership, vowing that he will not be silenced or distracted from delivering county projects.
Until October, the court order allows Wamatangi to continue discharging his duties as Kiambu Governor as the case hangs in the balance.
