Homa Bay reports second Mpox case as county health teams ramp up containment and community surveillance measures

Homa Bay County has confirmed its second case of Mpox, with health teams moving swiftly to prevent further spread. County spokesperson Atieno Otieno said the first case involved a 41-year-old man, while the second patient is a 44-year-old male from Ndhiwa Sub-County, who had been invigilating KCSE examinations at Okok Secondary School.

Both patients are clinically stable and currently in isolation. Rapid case finding, contact tracing, and community health surveillance are ongoing, with household visits and public health education targeting potential exposures.

The county government is working closely with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, Kenya Red Cross, Centre for Disease Control, and Médecins Sans Frontiers for technical support.

Residents are advised to avoid close contact with anyone showing Mpox symptoms such as fever, rashes, or swollen lymph nodes and report unusual illnesses in schools, markets, or workplaces immediately.
