IEBC outlines services in continuous voter registration starting September 29 as survey reveals declining public confidence

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has clarified the services Kenyans can access during the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, set to begin on Monday, September 29, 2025.

In a statement posted on X, the commission reminded citizens that voter registration is both a constitutional right and a requirement under Article 88 of the 2010 Constitution.

Services available during the CVR include new voter registration, correction or update of personal details, transfer of registration to a new electoral area, and verification of voter details.

To qualify, one must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 years or older, possess a valid ID or passport, not already be registered, not convicted of an election offence within the past five years, and not declared of unsound mind.

The exercise will run in all IEBC constituency offices except in areas holding by-elections.

However, the voter registration drive comes at a time when public confidence in the electoral body is waning. A new survey by TIFA released on September 24, 2025, shows only 18 per cent of Kenyans say they are “very confident” in IEBC’s ability to deliver a credible election, down sharply from 58 per cent in August 2022.

The poll further revealed that 26 per cent are “somewhat confident,” 48 per cent lack confidence entirely, while 8 per cent remain undecided. The trend signals growing skepticism as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.
