IEBC ready for Isiolo South by-election on February 26

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced it is fully prepared to conduct the Isiolo South parliamentary by-election slated for February 26, 2026.

In a statement issued Monday, the Commission, through Isiolo South Returning Officer Abdi Sheikh, confirmed that all logistical and administrative preparations for the mini-poll have been finalised.

According to IEBC, the constituency has 22,216 registered voters spread across 61 polling stations. All polling centres will open at 6:00am and close at 5:00pm.

“The by-election will be held on 26th February 2026. Isiolo South Constituency has 61 polling stations and 22,216 registered voters. Candidates and political parties are urged to adhere to the electoral code of conduct during the election period,” Abdi said.

He further called on residents to turn out in large numbers and maintain peace throughout the voting exercise.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area MP Mohammed Tubi, who passed away while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital in November 2025.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the legislator’s death, describing it as a significant loss to Parliament and the nation.

The upcoming contest is expected to attract political attention, with candidates from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Jubilee Party set to battle for the seat.

Among those cleared by IEBC are siblings Tubi Mohammed Tubi and Bina Mohamed Tupi, children of the late MP. Tubi will vie on a UDA ticket, while her sister Bina will contest under Jubilee Party.

IEBC has reiterated its commitment to delivering a free, fair, transparent and credible election.
