IEBC sets February by-elections in Isiolo South, Mbeere North, Malava

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially set four by-elections for February 26, 2026, covering Isiolo South parliamentary seat and MCA positions in Muminji and Evurore wards in Mbeere North, as well as West Kabras ward in Malava, Kakamega County.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon announced the appointments of six Returning and Deputy Returning Officers, two in each county, to oversee the polls. The Isiolo South seat became vacant following the death of Mohamed Tubi, elected in 2022, while the MCA positions opened after resignations to contest parliamentary seats in the November 2025 by-elections.

Political parties are required to submit names of nominated candidates by January 16, 2026, and independent candidates must submit their details and symbols by January 2. Parties must also ensure candidates have not belonged to any other political party at least three months prior to the by-elections.

The IEBC will publish contesting candidates’ names and party primary dates within seven days of nomination submission. Campaigning will run from January 22 to February 23, daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., concluding 48 hours before polling day.

These by-elections come as part of ongoing efforts to ensure continuous representation and uphold Kenya’s democratic processes in both national and county assemblies.
