IG Douglas Kanja issues stern warning on bribery, fake papers as Nationwide Police Recruitment begins on October 3

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has assured Kenyans that the upcoming nationwide police recruitment exercise will be conducted with transparency, warning both candidates and officers against corruption and malpractice.

Speaking on Thursday, October 2, just a day before the exercise kicks off, Kanja outlined strict selection guidelines to be applied during the seven-day recruitment, which runs from October 3 to October 9 across 416 centers countrywide. The exercise is targeting 10,000 new police constables.

“The candidates must meet educational standards, pass rigorous assessments, and demonstrate the physical and mental aptitude required for policing,” Kanja said, adding that anyone attempting to bribe officers, use middlemen, or present fake documents risked immediate disqualification, dismissal, or prosecution.

He also issued a stern warning to recruiting officers, directing them to maintain the highest professional standards. “Any engagement in malpractices will have dire consequences, including dismissal and criminal charges. Oversight teams will conduct impromptu visits to ensure accountability,” he stated.

Kanja further urged members of the public to report any irregularities witnessed during the recruitment. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28, with a minimum KCSE grade of D-.

The police service hopes the transparent process will not only safeguard its credibility but also attract qualified, committed recruits ready to serve the nation.
