IG Kanja approves Samidoh’s resignation after 12 years in police service

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has formally accepted the resignation of popular Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, from the National Police Service (NPS).

Samidoh, who balanced his music career with police service for 12 years, resigned citing personal reasons and a desire to focus fully on his music. His resignation took effect on July 20.

“He is free to pursue whatever he wishes,” IG Kanja said while confirming the development.

The singer’s decision follows months of tension with his employer, including desertion charges earlier this year. In June, the NPS ordered his arrest after he failed to report to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, where he had been redeployed. The service accused him of absconding duty for more than 10 days and subsequently suspended his salary.

According to ASTU commandant’s report, Samidoh had been granted off-duty but failed to resume work on May 27, 2025. Around the same time, he was on a music tour in the United States, performing at the Ngemi Cia Ruraya event in Seattle, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

His redeployment to ASTU was widely seen as a disciplinary measure, and his close ties with Gachagua, including his participation in political chants against President William Ruto, fueled speculation about growing friction with his superiors.

On July 25, the High Court granted him anticipatory bail of Ksh200,000, blocking his arrest but requiring him to surrender his passport.

With IG Kanja’s acceptance, Samidoh officially bows out of the service, bringing to an end a career that had long been overshadowed by his flourishing music journey.
