Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has confirmed that this year’s police recruitment will be conducted in a single day, with the nationwide exercise set for Monday, November 17.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 14, the IG announced that the process will begin at 8am and close at 5pm across 427 recruitment centres countrywide. At least 10,000 new police constables are expected to be enlisted.
Kanja said the recruitment will proceed as advertised on October 31, after the High Court lifted an earlier suspension that had thrown the exercise into uncertainty. Justice Bahati Mwamuye lifted the ban on Monday, November 10, which had been triggered by a petition from activist Eliud Matindi questioning the IG’s authority to conduct the recruitment.
The National Police Service described the drive as an opportunity for young Kenyans to join a new cohort of officers expected to support ongoing reforms within the Service.
Unlike the multi-day military recruitment process, the police exercise will last only one day.
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 18 to 28, possess a national ID, and have at least a D+ in KCSE, including a D+ in English or Kiswahili. Male candidates must be at least 5ft 8in tall, while females require a minimum height of 5ft 3in. Female applicants must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.
Those with felony records or unresolved criminal charges will automatically be disqualified, while eligible NYS graduates have been encouraged to apply.
NPS further warned against bribery and corruption, insisting that any individual whether giver or taker found engaging in graft during the exercise will face immediate legal action.
