IG Kanja vows tight security for November 27 by-elections following Rigathi Gachagua’s calls for his resignation

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has vowed to ensure tight security and impartial policing during the November 27 by-elections, dismissing calls by some political leaders for his resignation.

In a statement on Wednesday, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga warned politicians against interfering with the electoral process or undermining public confidence. He emphasized that anyone engaging in unlawful activities will face the full force of the law.

“The NPS remains committed to executing its duties professionally, constitutionally, and impartially to facilitate a peaceful, free, and credible election,” the statement read.

The police are working closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure smooth voting in 24 constituencies. Citizens were urged to remain calm, go about their daily activities without fear, and cooperate with law enforcement and electoral officials.

The statement followed opposition claims, including from DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, accusing the IG of failing to act on clashes in Narok, allegedly coordinated against opposition supporters.
