President William Ruto has taken an early lead in the 2027 presidential race in Western Kenya, according to a new Infotrak survey released on Thursday.
The poll shows President Ruto commanding 25 per cent support in the region, ahead of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i at 15 per cent and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya at 13 per cent. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka follows with eight per cent, while Embakasi East MP Babu Owino registers three per cent. Other political figures, including Gladys Wanga, Rigathi Gachagua and David Maraga, record two per cent each, with Martha Karua trailing at 0.5 per cent.
Five per cent of respondents declined to name a preferred candidate, while a significant 25 per cent remain undecided.
Beyond voter preference, the survey highlights shifting influence within Western Kenya’s leadership. Governor Natembeya emerged as the most influential Luhya leader, with 50 per cent of respondents identifying him as the community’s strongest political voice. His influence was most pronounced in Trans Nzoia County, where he scored 70 per cent.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi ranked second at 32 per cent, with his strongest showing in Vihiga County. ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna followed closely at 31 per cent, drawing strong backing in Busia County, while National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula placed fourth at 29 per cent, leading in Bungoma.
The poll was conducted on December 29, 2025, among 600 registered voters across five Western Kenya counties using Computer Assisted Telephonic Interviews. It carries a margin of error of ±4 per cent at a 95 per cent confidence level.
Analysts say the findings point to a competitive and evolving political landscape in Western Kenya as the 2027 election season begins to take shape.
