American YouTube streamer Dareen Jason Watkins Jr, popularly known as IShowSpeed, has recorded a major digital milestone during his visit to Kenya, gaining more than 360,000 new subscribers in a single day.
The streamer, who is in the country as part of his 28-day Speed Does Africa Tour, crossed the 48-million-subscriber mark after livestreaming his first day in Nairobi. His broadcast began upon arrival at the airport and continued as he toured several landmarks across the capital.
IShowSpeed described the reception in Kenya as overwhelming, noting the massive crowds that turned up to meet him. His livestream attracted over 200,000 real-time viewers, one of the highest live audiences recorded on YouTube.
During the tour, he visited Upper Hill High School, Mukuru affordable housing project, Uhuru Park, KICC, Nairobi National Park and experienced a matatu ride. He later capped the day with a helicopter tour over the city.
The Kenyan government also welcomed the streamer, with President William Ruto and Tourism CS Rebecca Miano engaging him during his visit.
