Disruptions at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport continued on Tuesday as the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) strike entered its second day. The industrial action comes amid a labour dispute with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
Airlines have been forced to cancel, delay, or divert multiple flights. Jambojet alerted passengers that air traffic control disruptions are affecting schedules, urging travellers not to proceed to the airport until flight status is confirmed. Kenya Airways issued similar advisories, emphasizing passenger safety and urging travellers to contact the airline before travelling.
The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) warned that prolonged disruptions could affect crew scheduling and rest periods, potentially increasing fatigue among flight crews. The pilots’ body insisted that aviation safety remains non-negotiable and urged adherence to Flight Duty Period regulations.
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said it is coordinating with airlines and regulators to restore normal operations. Passengers have reported frustration over cancelled flights and landing issues, including National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, whose flight was cancelled on Tuesday morning.
Travellers are advised to remain in contact with their airlines for updates, rebooking options, and other assistance as the situation evolves.
