The Jubilee Party has officially endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election a move seen as part of its strategy to reclaim political ground ahead of the next polls.
Speaking during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni announced that Matiang’i’s application to run for president under Jubilee’s ticket had been unanimously approved.
“We have formally accepted Dr. Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” said Kioni.
In a further show of confidence, the former CS was also appointed as the party’s Deputy Leader placing him at the centre of Jubilee’s new leadership structure. Kioni stated that Matiang’i will represent the party within the united opposition movement.
The NEC meeting also focused on strengthening Jubilee’s grassroots operations, with plans to open more branches and recruit new members across the country. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was appointed National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen was named Senate Whip.
Kioni added that the party will soon roll out a series of activities to re-energize its base ahead of 2027.
The meeting also passed a message of condolence to the family of Mama Ida Odinga, wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Kioni further hinted at a possible review of Jubilee’s ties with the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, noting that any decision to exit would carry legal implications for some MPs.
