Residents of Kimbo-Matangi Road in Juja sub county are protesting the poor condition of the 6-kilometer stretch. The road is riddled with potholes, mud, and dust, making travel nearly impossible. It is especially difficult for commuters connecting from Theta Ward to the Thika Superhighway. Locals blame the contractor for delivering substandard work, leaving the road derelict.
The road is a vital link for the community, but it has been neglected for years. Frustration among residents has grown. Its poor state disrupts daily commutes and limits access to essential services. Businesses and social activities have been negatively impacted, isolating the area and hindering development.
During the protests, residents blocked the road with stones and burning tires. They demanded immediate action from the county government. Tuk-tuk drivers, boda boda operators, and other road users joined the demonstrations. Protesters expressed disappointment with local leaders for ignoring their plight despite repeated complaints.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi recently visited the road and acknowledged residents’ concerns. He promised to prioritize tarmacking the stretch to improve connectivity. Wamatangi highlighted the benefits of upgrading the road, including better access to markets, schools, and healthcare. He emphasized that the project would boost the area’s economy.
