Kabogo appoints Johana Ng’eno’s widow Naiyanoi Ntutu to ICTA board

Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has appointed Naiyanoi Ntutu Ng’eno to the board of the Information and Communication Technology Authority (ICTA).

The appointment, published in a gazette notice dated April 2, 2026, will see Naiyanoi serve as a board member for a three-year term, effective immediately from the date of publication.

Her entry into the ICTA board places her at the centre of Kenya’s growing digital transformation agenda, with the authority playing a critical role in advancing e-government services, digital infrastructure, and ICT policy implementation across the country.

Naiyanoi is the widow of the late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno, whose death in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, shocked the nation. The tragic incident claimed six lives and drew widespread condolences from leaders and Kenyans across the country.

Following her appointment, ICTA Board Chairperson Lily Ng’ok Kirui welcomed Naiyanoi to the team, expressing confidence in her leadership and ability to contribute to the authority’s mandate.

“I look forward to working closely with you. I have no doubt in your abilities and the contribution you will make to the team,” Kirui said in a message shared publicly.

Naiyanoi briefly stepped into the political spotlight after her husband’s death, when she expressed interest in contesting the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat left vacant. However, she later withdrew from the race following consultations with her family, citing personal reasons.

Her appointment to ICTA now marks a shift from elective politics to public service, positioning her within a key national institution tasked with steering Kenya’s digital economy.

ICTA plays a central role in implementing government ICT projects, promoting innovation, and ensuring efficient digital service delivery across ministries and public agencies.

Her inclusion in the board is expected to strengthen oversight and contribute to policy direction as the country continues to expand its digital infrastructure and services.

The move also reflects ongoing efforts by the government to bring in new voices and perspectives into strategic public institutions.

As she takes up the role, attention will be on how Naiyanoi leverages her experience and public profile to contribute to ICTA’s objectives and support Kenya’s broader digital transformation journey.
