Kabuku Comprehensive School Benefits from New Classrooms Funded by Japanese Government

Students at Kabuku Comprehensive School in Limuru constituency have benefited from eight new classrooms. Funded by the Government of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), these classrooms cost approximately Ksh 16.8 million.

Japanese Ambassador Okaniwa Ken officially handed over the project at a ceremony attended by Limuru MP John Kiragu. The GGP is a Japanese government initiative that provides financial assistance to non-profit organizations for community-level projects.

According to Okaniwa, the grant aims to contribute to the social and economic development of developing countries by addressing basic human needs like agriculture, healthcare, the environment, education, and infrastructure.

Moreover, the GGP supports organizations in implementing projects that improve the well-being and basic needs of local populations. These projects can include construction, renovation, or equipment provision for schools, health facilities, vocational training centers, small-sized bridges, and boreholes.

Additionally, Okaniwa added that the project was one of many proposed by NGOs, schools, hospitals, and local government authorities last year and was selected for funding.

Limuru MP John Kiragu expressed his gratitude, saying, “Special thanks to the Government of Japan and H.E. Mr. Okaniwa Ken for this commendable initiative.

We look forward to more such impactful partnerships.” “This is a significant step towards easing the country’s financial burden and enabling the government to allocate more resources to other development projects within the sub-county, as students of Kabuku Comprehensive School now have a safe and improved learning environment,” stated MP Kiragu.

GGP funds are provided to recipient organizations after a thorough evaluation of their applications by the Japanese Government. The grant amount per project is generally under 10 million yen (approximately 20 million Kenyan shillings).

In attendance were Ambassador Macharia Kamau, Representatives from Chandaria Industries, Mr. Mukele (Limuru DCC), Area Chiefs, Ministry of Education officials, and the Kabuku Comprehensive School fraternity.
