Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed claims that he is stepping down from the 2027 presidential race, insisting that he will be on the ballot come the General Election.
In a video shared on his social media pages on Friday, September 19, Kalonzo accused bloggers allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration of spreading rumours meant to undermine his political ambitions.
“When did these claims of me stepping down from the 2027 Presidential elections emerge? I know all my enemies are suffering because they know I will definitely be on the ballot come 2027, God willing,” Kalonzo said.
The former vice president is a key figure in the United Opposition, a coalition facing increasing scrutiny over internal divisions and its long-term agenda. Speculation about Kalonzo’s loyalty has been fuelled by calls from Kenya Kwanza leaders urging him to abandon the opposition and join President William Ruto’s administration.
However, Kalonzo has rejected overtures to join government, branding it “rogue and criminal” while affirming his resolve to remain in opposition politics.
His remarks also come after he recently dismissed as fake a viral social media post that claimed he had been appointed by Ruto to a diplomatic mission in Côte d’Ivoire.
Despite the denials, questions linger over cracks within the United Opposition, with critics warning the coalition risks losing focus on its agenda by prioritizing succession politics over policy.
