Karungo Thang’wa accuses Kiambu MPs of pocketing cash from state house visit funds

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has accused area MPs of short-changing residents who attended a recent State House meeting with President William Ruto.

The Senator claimed each attendee was meant to receive Ksh10,000 for transport and facilitation, but only Ksh6,000 reached them, with MPs allegedly pocketing the balance.

“Njogu ndithikaguo na miguongo (a dead elephant is never buried with its tusks). We know we are not voting for Kasongo again, but we will still take his money and kick him out at the ballot,” Thang’wa wrote on social media.

He urged affected residents to demand the missing Ksh4,000 from their MPs.

Ruto Pledges Ksh76.5 Billion Projects in Kiambu

During the meeting, President Ruto announced major development projects worth Ksh76.5 billion for Kiambu County. These include a 10,000-seater stadium in Thika Town, 30 modern markets across the county at a cost of Ksh4.5 billion, and 15,000 affordable housing units valued at Ksh30 billion.

The Head of State also committed Ksh22 billion to complete the 240-kilometre Mau Mau Road network and to dualise the Muthaiga–Ndumberi road. An additional Ksh20 billion will go toward completing the Northern Bypass.

Several leaders present, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, backed calls for Kiambu to be recognised as a region independent of Mount Kenya.

President Ruto’s charm offensive in Kiambu comes at a time when his relationship with much of the Mount Kenya region remains strained following the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
