Karuri Municipality in Kiambu County has announced steady progress in the ongoing construction of the Kanungu Drainage System, a major infrastructure project aimed at addressing long-standing flooding challenges in Kihara Ward, Kiambaa Sub-county.
The works involve building reinforced concrete stormwater channels designed to guide runoff more efficiently, reduce overflow during heavy rains and improve overall sanitation in the area.
Municipal officials say the project will significantly enhance safety, protect property and strengthen community resilience by curbing recurring floods that previously disrupted homes, businesses and road access.
Once complete, the upgraded drainage will greatly improve the quality of life for residents, supporting a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment.
The project is part of Karuri Municipality’s wider efforts to modernize drainage systems and upgrade essential infrastructure across Kiambu County.
