Kenya Met forecasts heavy rains in major towns

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that several parts of the country will experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next five days, including on Christmas Day.

In its weather outlook covering December 23 to December 27, Kenya Met said rains are expected across Central Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley and parts of the Coast. The downpour is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly in the Lake Basin, Western and Rift Valley regions, before easing from Wednesday.

Counties expected to receive rain include Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kisumu, Siaya, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho and Kakamega, among others. Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are expected to receive light showers.

Kenya Met has also cautioned residents in Central Kenya to prepare for very cold nights, with temperatures dropping to as low as 5°C, while parts of Western Kenya may experience daytime temperatures of up to 32°C.
