Kenya Met warns of afternoon and evening rains in Nairobi, Kiambu and Embu as mixed weather persists

Nairobi, Kiambu and Embu counties are expected to receive intermittent afternoon and evening showers this week, according to a new update from the Kenya Meteorological Department. The weatherman says most parts of the country will remain sunny and dry between Tuesday and Saturday, but several regions will still experience occasional rainfall.

Kenya Met notes that the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley corridor, and the Lake Victoria Basin are among the areas likely to record showers over a few places.

In Nairobi and neighbouring counties such as Kiambu, Murang’a and Nyeri, mornings are expected to be cloudy with light rains before giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers may occur in scattered areas, while nights will remain partly cloudy with a chance of rain. Maximum temperatures in Nairobi are expected to reach 29°C, while minimums could drop to about 15°C, signalling warm days and relatively cool nights.

Northern counties — Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will begin the week with sunny intervals, before showers become more frequent on Friday and Saturday. Maximum temperatures in these areas could rise to 37°C.

In the South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Kajiado, Makueni and Taita Taveta, mornings may alternate between sunny and cloudy conditions, with a chance of showers in the afternoons and at night. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 34°C.

Coastal counties will also experience mixed weather patterns, with sunny intervals punctuated by light showers and partly cloudy nights. Temperatures along the coastline are expected to range between 23°C and 34°C.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley including Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay, Migori, Kisii and Nakuru will see sunny mornings, followed by showers in the afternoon and at night, with maximum temperatures of up to 32°C.

Turkana and Samburu will remain mostly sunny, although isolated afternoon showers may occur. Kenya Met has also warned of strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots in parts of the northwest.
