Kenya has deployed an additional 230 specialised police officers to Haiti, marking the fifth contingent sent under the ongoing Gang Suppression Force (GSF) mission. The officers arrived in Port-au-Prince on Monday and were received by Transitional Presidential Council President Laurent Saint-Cyr, alongside other senior Haitian officials.
The team was accompanied by Deputy National Security Advisor Joseph Boinett, who delivered President William Ruto’s message reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to supporting Haiti’s path to peace and stability. Another 100 officers are set to return home after completing an 18-month mission.
GSF Commander Godfrey Otunge said the new deployment arrives at a critical moment, noting that the fresh team brings reinforced capacity following rigorous training in human rights and international policing standards. The troops will work closely with Haitian security agencies to dismantle gangs that have destabilised the nation.
The deployment comes just days after President Ruto, while in the US for the Rwanda–DRC peace treaty signing, reiterated Kenya’s dedication to backing Haiti’s security transition.
