Residents of Kanungu in Kihara Ward, Kiambaa Sub-county, have received long-awaited relief as Kiambu County embarks on a major drainage project to address recurrent flooding in the area.
The County Government, under the leadership of Governor Kimani Wamatangi, has begun constructing a 0.5-kilometre drainage line designed to channel stormwater directly into the Karura River. The project seeks to curb seasonal flooding that has for years disrupted movement, damaged property and posed safety risks to the community.
County officials say the new drainage system is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve service delivery across flood-prone areas. For residents, the project is a welcome intervention that promises safer homes, better accessibility during the rains and long-term protection from stormwater overflow.
The County has assured locals that the works will be completed with urgency as part of broader mitigation measures aimed at improving resilience ahead of ongoing wet weather conditions.
